My father struggled with alcoholism for many years, which brought many challenges and difficult times to our family. During my school years, my brother and I stayed at Navodaya Vidyalaya, a residential school that provided free education. Since my father worked in Dubai and we were at school, our interactions were limited, and my mother rarely spoke about his struggles.
During my 10th grade vacation, I began to understand more about my father’s behavior. Facing this reality was difficult for me and my family. At one point, I felt overwhelmed and even attempted to take my own life. Thankfully, I survived, but those days left a deep impact on me.
In my college years, I returned home and faced ongoing difficulties within the family. The tension caused by my father’s habits and financial struggles affected all of us deeply. I found myself battling anger and frustration, often feeling isolated and unable to express my pain. Gradually, I spent most of my time away from home, staying in hostels and friends’ houses, as it felt safer and more peaceful.
The years of stress took a toll on my health. I developed fibromyalgia, along with PCOD and a slipped disc. I was in constant pain, exhausted, and unable to function normally. Despite numerous medical treatments, relief was minimal. I often faced sleepless nights and daily discomfort.
Things began to change when my mother introduced me to the meditation practices taught by Sri Thasmai Guruji. Initially, I was skeptical due to my scientific background, but I decided to join the practice. Gradually, I experienced a profound transformation. The meditation helped reduce my pain and improved my overall well-being.
After practicing SMS Meditation for several years, my PCOD and slipped disc healed completely, and my fibromyalgia improved significantly. This spiritual healing also brought peace and harmony into our family life.
Inspired by this change, I decided to leave my position as a Junior Research Fellow at the Rajiv Gandhi Center for Biotechnology and join Guruji’s research efforts. Guruji and Gurumatha have been patient and compassionate guides throughout my journey. They taught me to cultivate forgiveness and understanding, especially towards my father, which helped me release resentment and anger. Though I still work on managing my emotions, I am steadily improving.
Because my mother and I practiced meditation and followed Guruji’s guidance to seek forgiveness for mistakes from both past and present births and to serve food with “Brahmarpanam” (offering), our family experienced a remarkable transformation. We also stopped eating non-vegetarian food. At first, my father disagreed, but over time, he accepted these changes and began to respect my mother more. Though he has not yet taken up meditation himself, he has reduced his alcohol consumption and is now more focused on work.
No one else could bring this change—only God could. Despite visiting many temples and performing countless offerings and prayers over the years, I often wondered why my life did not improve. It was Thasmai Guruji who explained what God truly wants and how surrendering ourselves opens the way to blessings. It is only through the grace of the Guru that we could reach this transformation.
Today, I live with much less pain and more hope.
Meditation remains a vital part of my healing, and I continue to grow spiritually and emotionally. I am deeply grateful for the guidance I have received and the progress I have made. Although there is still much to improve, with faith and patience, I believe I will continue to heal and find lasting peace.
I hope my story inspires some of you. Thank you, Guruji, Gurumatha, and the universe.
